How different types of water affect hair fall?
Chlorine Water
Generally chlorine is found in tap water & in the swimming pool water. It is a reactive element & harsh oxidizer added in water to kill the bacteria. It is used as a disinfectant but it also adversely affects the hair. Your hair act like a sponge and any build up of chlorinated water at the mouth of the hair follicles may cause hair to break off. This built up coating blocks new hair growth. Chlorine chemically bonds to hair that’s why simple shampoo can’t get rid of it and it causes hair to become sticky & when they get dry they look like straw.

Salt Water
There is water in your hair, which makes your hair moisturized, elastic & stretchy. If too much moisturizer evaporates from your hair then they get become dry and dull. Seawater has high salt contents. It is osmotic in nature & because of that it wipes out moisture from your hair & makes them dry. Such hairs become brittle. They are rough to the touch and break easily because hair strands get tangled. Hair loss can occurs because of dry hair & this can be permanent.
Surface Water
Surface water is the water from river or lake. This water has not filtered down through mineral layers and hence it contains fewer minerals. But such water may also be contaminated by factory water. Increasing population is also one of the causes of increasing bacterial infection. To clear this bacteria, treatment plants adds more chlorine to water and then add lime to control this chlorine level. When this water used to wash hair, hair fall can occur.
Desalinated Water
Desalination is a process of removing salt from seawater to produce drinkable water. These days seawater is more polluted because of increasing population. As result treatment plants are adding more chlorine to purify the water then add lime to control the chlorine level. This water is safe to drink but causes many problems for hair growth. In gulf countries desalinated water is used for all daily activities and hair loss is a common complaint.
Hard water
Numbers of minerals and oxidizers are present in hard water. Some of them are good for hair. Scientific study found that the minerals and oxidizers present in hard water are positively charged while our hairs have negative charge. When positively charged oxidizer comes in contact with the negatively charged hair they get attracted. Because of this hair get dry, weak and frizzy. Hard water contains lots of minerals, which is the reason hard water could make hair appear dry and dull.
Ground Water
Ground water (for example, Bore Well) is also one the main reasons of hair fall. Ground water supply is primarily created from the rainwater that goes under ground for years. This rainwater gets collected in underground cavities which forms large water bodies, which we then extract using bore wells. When ground water passes through various layers of the soil, a lot of minerals and harmful chemicals (which are the byproducts of industrial pollution) get mixed with the water. When this water is used to wash hair, all these harmful chemicals damage your hairs causing hair fall.
Rainwater
Because of industrialization day-by-day environment getting highly polluted. As a result rainwater is also slowly becoming harmful for our hair. It makes hair tangled, dry and dull.
